Neurofibromatosis Type 2 is a kind of disease occurred due to the disturbance in gene order. It is a genetic imbalance which is identified on the basis of the appearance of ‘café-au-lait’ spots on the skin surface. This term means ‘coffee with milk’. These spots are called so because they impart light brown pigmented patches over the skin. 
The same feature has also been marked in the patients of Neurofibromatosis Type 1 but the no. of such spots is less in case of Neurofibromatosis Type 2. This kind of disorder is followed by the formation of benign tumors on the balancing nerves of inner ear. Although the tumors are non-cancerous but, the chances of occurrence of cancer cannot be denied totally. A fewer cases of NF2 can also experience cancer unfortunately.
The main cause of Neurofibromatosis Type 2 is nothing but a mutation in NF2 gene. Inheritance of the same mutant gene from a generation to the next generation is an optional cause of this genetic disorder. Actually each usually carries two copies of the same gene. Each copy of a gene is comprised by mother and father cell as a result of meosis cell division. If either of the copy of gene is inherited by an NF2 bearing parent, the progeny evolves 50% possibility of showing the symptoms of Neurofibromatosis Type 2. Read the rest of this entry »
